Accurate Time-Domain Simulation of Continuous-Time Sigma-Delta Modulators

چکیده
In this paper we present a methodology for the simulation of continuous-time sigma-delta converters. This method, based on a fixed-step algorithm, permits not only a time-domain simulation of the modulator output but also the simulation of intermediary signals. The method is based on the discretization of the continuous-time models and the use of a discrete simulator such as Simulink, which is more efficient than an analog simulator. By using filters with a sampling frequency higher than the modulator output frequency, the model can simulate input signals with a bandwidth which is higher than half the modulator sampling frequency. The transformation is exact in terms of Noise Transfer Function and asymptotically exact in terms of Signal Transfer Function (the Transfer Function from the modulator input to each stage filter output rapidly tends to the continuous-time model transfer function when the number of steps increases).

Time-Mode Signal Quantization for Use in Sigma-Delta Modulators
The rapid scaling in modern CMOS technology has motivated the researchers to design new analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architectures that can properly work in lower supply voltage. An exchanging the data quantization procedure from the amplitude to the time domain, can be a promising alternative well adapt with the technology scaling. This paper is going to review the recent development in t...

This paper describes how to extend the capabilities of SIMULINK for the time-domain simulation of ZA modulators implemented by using switched-capacitor, switched-current and continuous-time circuits. considering the most important error mechanisms. The behavioural models of these circuits are incorporated into the SIMULINK environment by using C-language S-function blocks, which leads to a dras...
متن کاملFast and accurate jitter simulation technique for continuous-time SDmodulators
A fast and accurate technique for modelling and simulation of clock jitter in continuous-time sigma-delta (SD) modulators is introduced. In addition to its high speed compared to the traditional jitter simulation method, the proposed technique is still continuous-time based, which is more convenient than discrete-time based jitter modelling suggested in other publications. The mathematical prin...
متن کاملFast clock-jitter simulation in continuous-time Delta-Sigma modulators
A new methodology for clock-jitter simulation in continuous-time sigma-delta (Σ∆) converters is proposed. This analysis method, based on a previously published method uses a discrete time simulator, more efficient than an analog simulator. Only one sample per output sample is required, which reduces simulation times to a few seconds, even for large simulations. Results will be compared to those...
متن کاملA time-domain noise-coupling technique for continuous-time sigma-delta modulators
In this paper, a time-domain noise-coupling technique based on the pulse width modulation is proposed. The time-domain quantization error is digitally extracted and shaped by an asynchronous digital filter. This digitally filtered quantization error is applied to the quantizer input to increase the modulator’s noise-shaping order. By using this technique in continuous-time sigma-delta modulator...
